Main motivation for taking adaptation action
Burgas' main motivation for taking adaptation action is the imminent need to lower the risks posed by the consequences of climate change experienced in the area recently and to exchange with other cities from the EU in order to effectively take collective action.

Planned adaptation actions
Burgas' Development Plan contains concrete actions that tackle problems related to climate change. As part of the plan, a digital climate atlas, which assesses risks and identifies vulnerabilities for the territory of the municipality, will be produced. An air quality and temperature measurement system will be developed and measures related to green corridors and roofs will be introduced. Detailed measures will also be developed for floods, erosion, storms, extreme heat, and the preservation of the biodiversity in the wetlands that surround the city.

These measures are part of a series of integrated projects related to the renovation of the urban area of Burgas and consist of the creation of green spaces, water surfaces, and vegetation pergolas on key pedestrian areas. This has helped to improve the city's urban environment and ensure its attractiveness and sustainability by creating urban areas in which people can comfortably live, work and relax.
