Main motivation for taking adaptation action
Thanks to climate change, Münster is faced with new challenges. Münster's main motivation for taking adaptation action is to find answers to the question, how it is possible to make the city liveable and pleasant despite the changing climatic conditions?

Summary of the strategy/plan
The climate adaptation concept for the city of Münster was created to capture the effects of climate change on the urban area as closely as possible and develop a coordinated action plan and strategy for the city of Münster. The Concept aims to address the following questions: What are the effects of climate change on the urban area of Münster? What measures are helping to make this impact bearable and to prevent damage? In what
adaptation-related areas is the city of Münster already active and what must the city do in the future?
Planned adaptation actions
Münster's adaptation actions will be described in the Climate Adaptation Concept that will be published in the spring of 2016.

What sectors are concerned
After extreme weather and flooding in the summer of 2002, Münster's interest in flood protection increased dramatically. The city released a flood action plan with the objectives of improving the exchange of information, raising awareness, reducing the risk of damage, and mitigating flood levels. In addition, Münster created an interdepartmental working group to coordinate flood-related issues including the establishment of a space of 30 to 50 meters along the edge of bodies of water to be kept free of development. Münster's flood protection and information gathering activity is conducted in partnership with the University of Münster and the Münster University of Applied Sciences via the ‘information logistics in flood situations' programme.
Albersloher Weg was flooded after major storms in July 2002.
