Good practice / spotlight item

Preventing catastrophic damage from flooding
Puerto Lumbreras is increasingly prone to flooding and in recent years, the impacts thereof have been particularly catastrophic. To reduce the impact of flooding, various flood prevention and protection projects have been implemented, including the construction of 11 new flood defence dykes in Puerto Lumbreras and neighbouring areas. The dykes are designed to even out and reduce the rate of flowing floodwater and ultimately lessen the impact of flooding on the local economy and public safety.
