European Drought Observatory (EDO) (2011)

Description

JRC's Action DESERT is developing a European Drought Observatory (EDO), a web-based information system, integrating information from various sources and disciplines, for drought forecasting, assessment and monitoring, due to the increased need for consistent and timely information on droughts on the European scale.

The website provides the fundamental data and tools for an analysis of the current drought situation. The interpretation of the drought indices by experts from the DESERT action of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission is provided in the section Drought Situation. The data on which these interpretation is based, is provided in the Data & Tools

The Data & Tools section offers a wide range of possibilities:

  • discover data by browsing through the metadata catalogue
  • view drought indices in the map viewer
  • analyse data with the analysis tools
  • download data for offline analysis.

In addition, the JRC Europe Media Monitor, an electronic news archive, collects news items on drought events registered in the news.
