Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre (DRMKC)

Description

The Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre (DRMKC) was launched on 30th September 2015 to help enhance EU and Member State resilience to disasters and their capacity to prevent, prepare and respond to emergencies through a strengthened interface between science and policy.

The Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre pursues three main objectives:

    improving science-based services through partnerships
improving the use and uptake of research and operational knowledge
advancing science and technology in disaster risk management.

Among its first activities, the Knowledge Centre will offer Member States technical advice on risk assessment methodologies, while consolidating scientific networks on related disaster risk management matters. To facilitate the use and uptake of research, the Knowledge Centre will develop an online repository of relevant research and operational results. The Knowledge Centre will also create a network of crisis management laboratories and test beds for conducting experiments and benchmarking exercises on crisis management technologies. Networks of scientists and policy-makers under the umbrella of the Knowledge Centre will analyse gaps, challenges and recent developments in disaster risk management to produce a periodic "State of science and technology in disaster risk management"
