Countries, regions and cities

All countries are at different stages of preparing, developing and implementing national adaptation strategies. The countries section provides information on:

  • the current state of their national adaptation strategy
  • the adaptation plans in their 5th National Communication to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
  • specific regional and local measures and actions.

Transnational Regions and other regions and countries
The European Commission (DG REGIO) has defined, and agreed with its Member States, 13 regions for transnational co-operation. In addition, specific EU agreed strategies exist for two transnational regions (Baltic Sea Region, Danube Region). Various other EU programmes and other organisations provide information on adaptation strategies and actions across countries in the EU, the wider Europe and its neighbouring countries, which are also briefly covered in this section.

This section provides access to information about climate challenges and adaptation options for cities, which, although not strictly "regions", are particularly vulnerable to climate change and share many challenges. The section provides information on strategies and actions that have been developed or are currently under development.
