French National Adaptation Plan for Climate Change for the period 2018-2022 launched
The objective of the second French National Adaptation Plan for Climate Change (PNACC-2) for the period 2018-2022, launched in December 2018, is to better prepare the French society to climate change, involving the main sectors of the economy (agriculture, industry, tourism) and territories. Based on the recommendations of the assessment of PNACC 2011-2015, the development of PNACC-2 was based on a national consultation that mobilized over 300 representatives from civil society, experts and representatives of local authorities and ministries.

Have your say to build a European Network on Climate Change Adaptation
The EU Mission Adaptation project 'TransformAr', has recently launched a new questionnaire to build a European Network on Climate Change Adaptation. The questionnaire aims at building this network to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange, and discussion on transformative adaptation, starting with organizing webinars on various topics, such as Nature-Based Solutions and Digital & Technological Solutions.

Health as a lever for action on climate change
On the occasion of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union, Santé publique France and The International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI) organised a discussion day on climate change and public health on 8 April 2022. The event aimed to raise better awareness of the interlinkages between climate, biodiversity and health in public policies, and to encourage concrete actions at the local, national and European level to adapt to climate change.

Launch of Open Public Consultation for the design of the new EU Adaptation Strategy
The European Commission announced in the European Green Deal the adoption of a new EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change. The Directorate-General for Climate Action launched on 14 May 2020 an open public consultation for its work on the new Strategy. A broad range of stakeholders, including citizens, businesses, NGOs, academia, national, regional and local authorities, are invited to provide inputs until 20 August 2020.

LIFE launches 2018 call for action grants
The EU’s LIFE programme has launched its 2018 call for proposals, supporting projects that protect the environment and tackle the impacts of climate change. The total budget for project action grants in this year's call is 397 million €. Of this, 80 million € is foreseen for the sub-programme for Climate Action.

LIFE project ADAPTA BLUES is launched
The 5-year project ADAPTA BLUES, funded by the LIFE Programme, focuses on the restoration of estuarine ecosystems as a Nature Based Solution to remediate the risks related to climate change in coastal areas. The aim is to demonstrate that the conservation and restoration of estuarine ecosystems is an efficient strategy to enhance adaptation to climate change in coastal areas of the European Atlantic coast.

Managing the impact of climate change: First International Standard for adaptation published
'ISO 14090, Adaptation to climate change - Principles, requirements and guidelines', is the first in a range of ISO standards that aims to help organizations assess climate change impacts and put plans in place for effective adaptation. The standard will also be implemented as a European standard.

Paper published: Indicators for adaptation to climate change at national level - Lessons from emerging practice in Europe
As countries gain more experience in developing and implementing national climate change adaptation strategies and plans, the need for understanding their progress and effects is also increasing, especially through indicators for monitoring and evaluation of adaptation to climate change at national level. This Technical Paper contributes to the evolving knowledge base, and is accompanied by an annex including a database of national adaptation indicator sets from five European countries collected in 2017 and 2018.

RAMSES project results on impact of research on adaptation to climate change in cities
RAMSES, a five-year EU project concluded in September 2017, research results are summarized in a final report: analysed structural features of cities, and developed tools, such as an innovative urban climate model to be applied to Antwerp, London, and Bilbao.

Reduced flood risks for over 1,300 people living along Slovenian rivers
To prevent floodings, as Slovenia had experienced in the past, a series of measures have been taken along the rivers Meža and Mislinja as part of a project, funded by the EU Regional Policy, carried out by the Slovenian Water Agency. The project will help to ensure a 100-year flood protection in the urban areas and agricultural areas included in the project.
