Objective of the funding programme

The funding targets small wetlands that are important for nature conservation and are not used for agriculture or forestry. It supports the identification of suitable areas for re-wetting, as well as the preparation and implementation of measures to restore drained wetlands permanently and extensively. Intact wetlands are crucial not only for climate protection (through greenhouse gas storage) but also for maintaining a functional landscape water balance, making them an important natural tool for climate adaptation.
