The EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change has unveiled a new database to help simplify and streamline decision-making around regional climate adaptation. The new database gives local and regional authorities access to up-to-date, helpful, and reliable decision-making tools for adaptation.

Currently, the database showcases 11 carefully chosen tools to assist local and regional adaptation managers in confidently navigating and selecting the most suitable tools for their specific needs and at their stage of the development cycle, from initial climate adaptation planning to full-scale implementation. This selection is based on factors like hazards, adaptation stage, and level of expertise, ensuring managers find the tools that best fit their requirements.

Guido Schmidt from the Mission Implementation Platform (MIP4Adapt), which developed the database, said:
"The database does the arduous legwork for the user, weeding out irrelevant and outdated tools.”

Examples of the types of tools included in the database:

  • TransformAr Playbook: Leading and moderating participatory and lively workshops on adaptation pathways. Participants are asked to explore the difference between incremental and transformational adaptation solutions.
  • DERRIS climate risk self-assessment tool: Increase the climate risk awareness of local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) while encouraging them to adapt to climate change.
  • Aqueduct's Water Risk Atlas: This free tool presents open-source maps to show global water risks such as floods, droughts, and stress. Users can identify and prioritise locations facing the highest physical (water quantity and quality), regulatory, and reputational water risks. The tool also promotes best practices in water resource management.

Contribute to the database

The database builds on tools developed by European research and innovation projects and national and private sector developments and will further be expanded in the coming months. Mission Projects are encouraged to reach out to the MIP4Adapt team via the Helpdesk to learn more about how they can promote their tool on the database.
