    The European Green Capital award (for a city of 100,000+ inhabitants; €600,000) and European Green Leaf Award (for a city of 20,000 to 99,999 inhabitants; €200,000) can be applied for to enhance the cities’ environmental sustainability and to contribute to achieving their sustainability vision.

  • A new interactive tool for climate action in the Alps

    The Alpine Climate Board has set up a website to establish an Alpine climate action community and to facilitate its involvement in the implementation of the Alpine Climate Target System 2050 towards climate neutral and climate resilient Alps. The website is built around 30 implementation pathways, i.e. sequences of concrete short- and mid-term measures towards the targets.

  • Round table on climate change adaptation in Croatia

    The Civil Protection Service of Šibenik organized a round table to promote climate change adaptation, to inform operational forces on possible impacts of climate change and to gather ideas on how to improve awareness on climate change adaptation. Representatives of policy makers, academia, fire brigades, police, healthcare, army, nature wardens and civil society attended the meeting.

  • AgriAdapt webtool for adaptation

    Within the AgriAdapt project, supported by the LIFE program of the European Commission, French, Spanish, German and Estonian partners developed an interactive tool to support climate-resilience in the agriculture sector. The tool integrates the experiences of 120 pilot farms working in livestock, arable and permanent crops in four different climatic areas.

  • Climate extremes will cause forest changes

    The past five years were among the warmest in Central Europe, of which 2018 was the most extreme one. Forests showed severe signs of drought stress, and mortality of trees will continue for several years, with spruce and beech trees as the most affected ones.

  • New film about adaptation in Sweden

    The film "Adapt to a future climate – examples from municipalities” offers an introduction to how society can be adapted to a changing climate and why it is important. Representatives from several Swedish municipalities present how they have dealt with some of their challenges. The film has been produced by Swedish National Knowledge Centre for Climate Change Adaptation.

  • PLACARD project finished: more coherence between climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction

    Learning to deal with extremes: climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction communities can share experiences and knowledge for better collaboration and coherence. That is what the PLACARD platform did in the past years. Being confronted with the COVID-19 extreme, the project succeeded in adapting our final conference to an online version. The materials are accessible on the website and can further play a role in on-going dialogues.

    In five online lessons, the FAO e-learning Academy provides an overview of adaptation and mitigation strategies that can be implemented in response to climate change impacts on the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

  • Participation processes on climate change adaptation: reflection and recommendations

    The study presents an analysis of 22 participation processes on adaptation to climate change in Germany and gives recommendations for improving such processes. The results indicate that the use of visioning methods seems suitable for motivating climate adaptation measures. In order to systematically improve participation procedures, participants surveys assessing their perceptions of the used participation method and its motivational effect should become the standard.
