Description:

With the funding programme “klimazwei – research for climate protection and protection from climate impacts”, the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) is financing research on dealing with climate change. Concrete solutions both for climate protection measures and for adaptation to climate change have been developed in transdisciplinary research co-operations involving users from business and society. Klimazwei was the BMBF’s first funding programme to explicitly discuss the management of climate change from both perspectives: mitigation and adaptation.
The ability to adapt to climate change is being improved in several klimazwei-projects for protection from climate effects. Here, early warning systems provide risk aversion in the case of extreme weather events, drainage concepts, adaptation measures for field crops and in fruit growing as well as modified services in tourist destinations. Additionally, suggestions of measures for regional planning and urban development have been produced. Finally, decision support systems are offered for agriculture and forestry.
