Støtta av metaprogrammet Adaptation of Agriculture and Forests to Climate Change (AAFCC) frå det franske nasjonale instituttet for landbruksforskning (INRA), tek prosjektet Climate-CAFE sikte på å vurdere tilpasningskapasiteten til klimaendringar hos europearar dyrkbare beskjerings- og oppdrettssystemer, gjennom modellering og simulering av innovative strategiar samdesignet med aktørar (gruppe bønder, rådgjevarar og aktørar i landbrukssektoren).

Tre hovudkategoriar av strategiar vart identifiserte: (1) motstandsstrategiar, minimere verknaden av kortsiktige klimaendringar med enkle justeringar og enkle å implementere, (2) motstandskraft, noko som vil krevje eit systemisk tilpasningsbeskjeringssystem på tvers av feltet eller garden, (3) ein drastisk transformasjon av beskjerings- og oppdrettssystemer.

Målet er å evaluere ulike tilpasningsstrategiar i to IPCC-scenari i nær framtid (2050) og langt (2100), med tanke på ulike europeiske pedoklima, som feiar det breie spekteret av landbrukssituasjonar i store europeiske kulturar, frå Finland til Sør-Spania (Nord-Sør-gradient) og Skottland aust for Tyskland (Vest-Aust-gradient).
