The European Environment Agency (EEA) is an agency of the European Union. The EEA provides sound, independent information on the environment for those involved in developing, adopting, implementing and evaluating environmental policy, and also the general public. In close collaboration with the European Environmental Information and Observation Network (Eionet) and its 32 member countries, the EEA gathers data and produces assessments on a wide range of topics related to the environment, including climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Key activities within climate change and health

The EEA undertakes work on climate change and health primarily in the thematic areas climate change adaptation and environment and health. Work in the thematic areas climate change mitigation and air pollution also has some relevance for this topic.

The EEA hosts the European Climate and Health Observatory as a part of the European Climate Adaptation Platform Climate-ADAPT. Both platforms are jointly managed with the European Commission.

The EEA has developed several elements of the European Climate and Health Observatory, including the country profiles, the Urban Adaptation Map Viewer, the European Climate Data Explorer (jointly with the Copernicus Climate Change Service), thematic pages, indicators and the Resource Catalogue.

The EEA has produced a Briefing for European Policymakers jointly with the Lancet Countdown, and both organisations plan to produce joint indicator-based reports annually.

The Resource Catalogue of the European Climate and Health Observatory provides access to further relevant EEA products.
