Health as a lever for action on climate change

On the occasion of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union, Santé publique France and The International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI) organised a discussion day on climate change and public health on 8 April 2022. The event aimed to raise better awareness of the interlinkages between climate, biodiversity and health in public policies, and to encourage concrete actions at the local, national and European level to adapt to climate change.

Reduced flood risks for over 1,300 people living along Slovenian rivers

To prevent floodings, as Slovenia had experienced in the past, a series of measures have been taken along the rivers Meža and Mislinja as part of a project, funded by the EU Regional Policy, carried out by the Slovenian Water Agency. The project will help to ensure a 100-year flood protection in the urban areas and agricultural areas included in the project.

ADAPT: Nature-based solutions for resilient societies in the Western Balkans

The ADAPT project is a three-year initiative, started in 2019, to increase ecosystem and community resilience to climate change and disaster risks by applying Nature-based solutions in the Western Balkan countries. It provides opportunities to analyze national ecosystem management and biodiversity policy from a climate change perspective, and adaptation indicators.

Launch of Open Public Consultation for the design of the new EU Adaptation Strategy

The European Commission announced in the European Green Deal the adoption of a new EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change. The Directorate-General for Climate Action launched on 14 May 2020 an open public consultation for its work on the new Strategy. A broad range of stakeholders, including citizens, businesses, NGOs, academia, national, regional and local authorities, are invited to provide inputs until 20 August 2020.

LIFE project ADAPTA BLUES is launched

The 5-year project ADAPTA BLUES, funded by the LIFE Programme, focuses on the restoration of estuarine ecosystems as a Nature Based Solution to remediate the risks related to climate change in coastal areas. The aim is to demonstrate that the conservation and restoration of estuarine ecosystems is an efficient strategy to enhance adaptation to climate change in coastal areas of the European Atlantic coast.

French National Adaptation Plan for Climate Change for the period 2018-2022 launched

The objective of the second French National Adaptation Plan for Climate Change (PNACC-2) for the period 2018-2022, launched in December 2018, is to better prepare the French society to climate change, involving the main sectors of the economy (agriculture, industry, tourism) and territories. Based on the recommendations of the assessment of PNACC 2011-2015, the development of PNACC-2 was based on a national consultation that mobilized over 300 representatives from civil society, experts and representatives of local authorities and ministries.
