LIFE is, since 1992, the EU’s financial instrument supporting environmental, nature conservation and climate action projects throughout the EU.
The European Strategy on adaptation to climate change identifies the Climate-ADAPT platform as the ’one-stop shop’ for adaptation information in Europe and establishes that the EU will provide financial support through the LIFE instrument for capacity building and step up adaptation action in Europe.
For the 2014-2020 funding period, LIFE has included explicitly for the first time a sub-programme for Climate Action, with a budget of € 864 million (25% of the total LIFE Programme) and three priority areas: (i) Mitigation, (ii) Adaptation and (iii) Climate Governance and Information. The strategic goals and thematic priorities are defined in the consecutive LIFE Multiannual Work Programmes and LIFE Annual Calls.
WHERE AND HOW TO FIND INFORMATION ON LIFE CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION PROJECTS
The LIFE Project Database offers a search tool to easily access to information on selected LIFE projects, both ended or in progress, relevant for the climate change adaptation community of practitioners in Europe.
The search engine of this data base allows to select the strand among all of the possible ones since the LIFE instrument was launched. Several filters allow to refine the query according with different criteria and user interest (year, country, beneficiary...).
Together with the strand on ‘Climate Change Adaptation‘, it is also very relevant the strand on ‘Climate Governance and Information‘, where there are projects that address key elements in the adaptation policy cycle.
There also projects that included an adaptation component and they are not in any ‘Climate Change‘ strand but in broader strands such as ”environment” or “nature“. They can be identify using climate related available keywords or free text, in the corresponding filters.
