Objective of the funding programme

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is a funding mechanism designed to support the development and economic growth of EU regions and local communities, with a particular focus on less developed areas. It pays special attention to regions facing geographical disadvantages, such as remote locations, islands, mountainous areas, or sparsely populated regions, as well as urban areas dealing with economic, social, and environmental challenges. The goal is to address these imbalances, foster regional cooperation, and make regions greener, low-carbon, and more resilient, while strengthening European cohesion and development. Climate adaptation projects are a key area of funding, focusing on initiatives such as sustainable urban mobility, energy efficiency upgrades, and ecosystem restoration.
