The Protected Raised Bog Restoration Incentive Scheme (PRBRIS) is a once-off, area-based compensation and land purchase scheme. It is open to applications from eligible property right holders who wish to have their lands included in raised bog restoration efforts, or where land access is needed to carry out restoration works within designated Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) or Natural Heritage Areas (NHAs).
The scheme directly supports Ireland’s climate adaptation and biodiversity objectives by restoring hydrological conditions on raised bog SACs and NHAs.

Type of funding
Funding rate (percentage of covered costs)
A once-off, area-based compensation payment of €1,450 per hectare (€587 per acre) is available to freehold title holders within SACs or NHAs to support restoration works (mainly drain-blocking), provided they are not receiving payments under the CTCCS for the same land. If both fee simple and turbary rights exist, the payment is split 85% to the turbary right holder and 15% to the landowner, assuming the turbary is not exhausted.
For commonage shareholders on bogland, the same rate of €1,450 per hectare applies, distributed pro-rata based on individual shares, and only for those not already receiving CTCCS payments.
A minimum payment of €1,000 and a maximum of €15,000 per individual per SAC/NHA site applies.
