Objective of the funding programme

The objective of the Woodland Environmental Fund (WEF) Pilot is to facilitate the planting of more native woodlands within Ireland by providing an access point for businesses to part-fund the establishment of these forests together with the government. Ecosystem services provided could include carbon sequestration, improving water quality in the local area, regulation of flood water, bank stabilisation, riparian restoration, enhancement of aquatic ecosystems, biodiversity, protection of soil, landscape enhancement, and renewable energy production.
