Objective of the funding programme

The European Territorial Cooperation Programmes for Cyprus are designed to support interregional learning among policy-relevant organisations. Their objective is to enable public authorities and other relevant organisations to actively learn from the experiences of other regions.

These programmes play a key role in tackling climate change by promoting cross-border and transnational collaboration on sustainability, adaptation, and mitigation efforts. By financing projects that enhance resilience, advance renewable energy, improve water and waste management, and safeguard biodiversity, they help regions address climate challenges collectively. This cooperative framework fosters knowledge exchange, policy coordination, and innovative solutions, contributing to a more sustainable and climate-resilient Europe.

Is a Consortium required to apply for the funding?

A partnership of between five and eight regions appears to be the configuration that best ensures a rich and successful interregional learning process. The recommended number of partners per project (excluding the possible involvement of an advisory partner) ranges from a minimum of five up to sixteen partners when additional considerations are taken into account. Participation of the policy-responsible authorities as partners is compulsory for at least 50% of the policy instruments addressed in a project application. Regarding eligibility criteria, the application should involve partners from three, four, or five geographical areas defined by the programme: North, East, South, West, and candidate countries. These partners should represent at least three countries, of which at least two must be from EU Member States, with the latter applying for Interreg Europe funding.
