The Innovation Fund, financed by EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) revenues, is one of the largest programs supporting innovative technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions in sectors such as renewable energy, energy-intensive industries, and clean mobility. While its primary focus is emissions reduction, the fund may also support climate adaptation. Technologies like carbon capture and storage (CCS), green hydrogen, and advanced energy storage not only contribute to emissions goals but also help build more resilient infrastructure and systems, reducing the vulnerability of communities to the impacts of climate change. By driving low-carbon innovation, the fund enhances both emissions reductions and climate resilience, supporting the transition to a more adaptive future.
