The SDE++ scheme aims to stimulate the large-scale deployment of technologies for renewable energy production and other CO₂-reducing technologies. By providing subsidies that cover the unprofitable component of such projects, the programme encourages investments in sustainable energy solutions, thereby contributing to the Netherlands' climate adaptation and mitigation goals.

Type of funding
Funding rate (percentage of covered costs)
The funding rate varies depending on the technology and current energy prices. The SDE++ subsidy compensates for the unprofitable component of a project—that is, the difference between the cost price of sustainable energy or CO₂ reduction and the market value of the generated product. The exact percentage of covered costs is determined per project and technology.
