The EKII aims to contribute to the prevention of global climate change, adaptation to the effects of climate change and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, for example through:
- increase of the energy efficiency of buildings or technological equipment and vehicles,
- expanding the use of renewable energy resources,
- promotion of adaptation to climate change on a national and regional scale,
- development of environmental technologies that ensure the increase of energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy resources, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in technological processes or adaptation to climate change,
- implementation of climate policy measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change, as well as preparation of research, planning and technical documents necessary for integration in various sectors,
- implementation of educational measures, which result in improved public understanding and knowledge of climate change and measures to be taken to mitigate it and ensure adaptation to climate change, and which promote a change in consumer habits, as well as promote the development of a low-carbon economy in Latvia.
