GeoSiFOR

GeoSiFOR is a Geographic Information Viewer that provides all users, whether authenticated or not, with a set of useful tools to access and produce geographic information. It allows users, in a simple and agile way, to search the Service Catalogue of the SGIFR Interoperable Platform (PLIS) and the National Geographic Information System (SNIG) Catalogue, enabling access to multiple information sources and facilitating data analysis and integration, including local-level information.

  • Explore and combine geospatial information relevant to rural fires, weather, climate and land management.
  • Access public datasets and, after authentication, restricted information shared by data providers.
  • Use map tools to analyse information from local to global scales.
  • Discover datasets from multiple Portuguese public-service catalogues.

Output

  • Integrated maps, graphs and geospatial visualisations.
  • Datasets and indicators from multiple providers.
  • Reports and decision-support information.
  • Rapidly updated satellite and meteorological layers, including some data refreshed every 10 minutes.
  • Access to interoperable public and restricted geospatial services.

Use it to

  • Access and combine information relevant to rural-fire risk and management.
  • Explore heat, drought, heavy precipitation, wind and wildfire information.
  • Support disaster-risk reduction, forestry and land-use planning.
  • Integrate local information with national and global datasets.
  • Make complex geospatial information accessible to non-specialist users.

Why is it relevant to climate adaptation

Brings together complex rural-fire, climate, weather and territorial information from multiple Portuguese data providers in a simplified geographic viewer. Its interoperability with national catalogues and frequently updated data streams helps both general users and specialists discover and combine information without navigating separate systems. The platform’s usefulness depends on the availability and performance of third-party web services, and some datasets require authentication.

Used in

  • Rural-fire prevention, preparedness and integrated management across Portugal.
  • National and subnational disaster-risk reduction, forestry and land-use planning.
  • Use of services from Portugal’s SGIFR Interoperable Platform and National Geographic Information System catalogue.
  • Near-real-time monitoring using Meteosat Third Generation layers updated as frequently as every 10 minutes.
  • Geospatial information services provided by the Portuguese Agency for the Integrated Management of Rural Fires.
