Myriad-EU multi-risk toolkit

MYRIAD-EU’s mission is to catalyse a paradigm shift in how risks are currently assessed and managed. Instead of addressing risks and hazards one by one, leading scientists from across Europe have co-develop the first harmonised framework for multi-hazard, multi-sector, and systemic risk management. The interlinkages between the different hazards and economic sectors has been studied in 5 pilots.

Open tool

What you can do with it

Input

  • Explore interlinkages between flooding, coastal flooding/storm surge, sea-level rise, heat, drought, fire/wildfire, wind/storm and landslide, and economic sectors
  • Draw on project-generated, user-provided, commercial/third-party and mixed data sources across five pilot regions

Output

  • Maps showing multi-hazard and cross-sectoral risk interactions

Use it to

  • Understand how different climate hazards interact and compound across sectors
  • Assess systemic climate risk rather than single hazards in isolation
  • Support the "preparing the ground" and risk-assessment stages of multi-hazard adaptation planning

Why is it relevant to climate adaptation

Distinct from most single-hazard tools in this collection by tackling systemic, cross-sectoral risk directly. This comes at a cost: it requires high-level expertise to interpret, offers only maps as output (no reports, datasets or narratives), and provides no nature-based-solution, cost-benefit or just-resilience functionality, despite continuously updated underlying data.

Used in

  • Multi-hazard, multi-sector and systemic risk management research through Horizon 2020 MYRIAD-EU, tested across five pilot regions
  • Agriculture, business and industry, coastal areas, disaster risk reduction, financial, health and tourism sectors, at European, transnational, outermost-region, national and subnational level
