National Adaptation Geo-information System

NAGiS is a GIS system to demonstrate territorial differences of climate vulnerability, laying the foundation for better informed decision-making and adaptation planning by showing differences of exposure, impact, sensitivity, adaptive capacity and vulnerability between sub-regions on 18 different topics. Its main function is to support national climate policy and local government decision making, providing its target groups with regularly updated data from climate observation and modelling, data about climate change impacts, consequences and potential adaptation capacities by sectors or vulnerability topics.

What you can do with it

Input

  • Select a Hungarian location, subregion or vulnerability topic.
  • Explore climate observations, model projections and sector information.
  • Compare exposure, impacts, sensitivity, adaptive capacity and vulnerability across territories.

Output

  • Climate and vulnerability maps.
  • Datasets, indicators and decision-support information across 18 topics.
  • Historical and forward-looking information for national, regional and local analysis.

Use it to

  • Assess territorial climate impacts and vulnerability.
  • Support national and local climate-policy decisions.
  • Inform climate strategies, SECAPs and spatial analyses.
  • Establish a basis for future monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

Why is it relevant to climate adaptation

Provides a comprehensive spatial picture of climate vulnerability across Hungary by combining hazard, impact, sensitivity and adaptive-capacity information. Its thematic breadth supports national and local planning, but interpretation requires some technical knowledge, update frequency varies by topic and the map server is available only in Hungarian.

Used in

  • National, regional and local climate planning in Hungary.
  • Climate strategies, SECAPs and vulnerability assessments.
  • Analysis across 18 vulnerability and climatological themes.
  • Expanded past-period analysis, multi-model projections and additional map layers reported by the tool owner.
