The European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) will dedicate its second annual conference to exploring the current state of health preparedness, with a focus on cross-border health threats. This will be an opportunity to take stock of the progress made, and discuss possible avenues for improved collective preparedness for health treats, including those emerging from climatic changes. The last of four thematic sessions of the one-day conference focusses on enhancing Europe’s preparedness to respond to climate-related health risks.

The COP28 Presidency, in collaboration with WHO, the Wellcome Trust and partners, is hosting the first-ever Health Day at the COP28 on 3 December, including the first climate-health ministerial. The Health Day will cover evidence on climate-health impacts; health arguments for and co-benefits of climate action; needs, barriers, good practices, measures and actions for climate resilience.

COP28, in collaboration with WHO and other partners, will organize the first ever Health Day on 3 December, including a climate-health ministerial. The COP is expected to lift the political profile of the climate-health topic, and mainstream health in the climate change agenda and -vice versa- climate change in health policies. WHO and Wellcome Trust host the COP28 Health Pavilion, bringing together a wide variety of climate-health stakeholders and actors. Several events on the climate-health nexus are organized in Dubai and streamed online.

The event will specifically focus on evidence on heat and air pollution developments in Europe (incl. from wildfires) and its health effects, as well as current and future temperature-related health burden in Europe and the socio-economic costs of climate change and benefits of adaptation and mitigation.

The conference will look in depth at the climate emergency, and very specifically at the human food supply.
