Cultural Adaptations is an action-research project seeking to find creative, innovative and place-based methods to adapt to climate change.

Throughout history, societies have adapted to the local conditions of their physical environments, but the pace of climate change will create new challenges and opportunities for cultural organisations. To be socially, environmentally and financially resilient to a warmer, wetter and wilder climate, culture must adapt. Well planned, early adaptation action saves money now and lives later. Cultural Adaptations seeks to develop the knowledge and the skills that cultural organisations and policy makers need to adapt their work. New, innovative and unique solutions are needed in order to adapt to the challenges of our climate changed world. Cultural Adaptations is exploring how creative methods can help adapt our cities. Cultural Adaptations provides resources and toolkits for both cultural organisations and adaptation practitioners.

In four countries in northern Europe, cultural organisations were paired with climate change experts and city governments to explore how culture can adapt to the impacts of climate change, and how creative practices can influence and shape how cities across Europe approach transformative adaptation.
