DisastEr Risk Reduction InSurance

The specific objectives of the LIFE DERRIS project are to: Transfer knowledge from insurance companies to public administrations and SMEs in terms of risk assessment and risk management for catastrophic weather events in order to create ‘resilient companies’, boosting the implementation of effective local adaptation plans; Disseminate evaluation tools and skills for risk prevention developed by the insurance industry among public administration bodies and SMEs; Implement innovative forms of public-private governance for climate catastrophes, involving SMEs, public administration bodies and insurance companies, consistent with European guidelines (EU Adaptation Strategy and Green Paper on the insurance of natural and man-made disasters) and favouring the regulatory approach already undertaken by several European countries; and Test the adoption of innovative financial instruments (e.g

Improve Resilience of Industry Sector

The main objective of the LIFE IRIS project is to support enterprises in the Emilia-Romagna region, particular SMEs, in their efforts to become more climate-resilient; and to test the effectiveness of the adaptation measures applied through a cluster approach (industrial area and supply chain analysis). The project will focus on: Fostering the diffusion of financial tools aiming to reward resilient enterprises or enterprises belonging to resilient industrial clusters; Promoting adaptation actions in the industry sector, based on an ecosystem approach; Developing green infrastructure and payments for ecosystem services (PES); Strengthening synergies among adaptation measures and other environmental issues, such as floods and droughts, water scarcity, biodiversity conservation, air quality and resource efficiency; Increasing the awareness of industrial and financial operators about the effects (threats and opportunities) of climate change on industrial production; and Defining opportunities for new green products and new green jobs related to the adoption of climate adaptation measures

Municipalities as integrators and coordinators in adaptation to climate change

Generate REsiliENt actions agaiNst the HEat islAnd effect on uRban Territory

In response to the changing climate, particularly the urban heat island (UHI) effect that amplifies increasingly frequent heat waves, the LIFE Green Heart projects aims to increase the resilience of the Toulouse Metropol. Specifically, t he main objective of the project is to reduce the local temperature by 3C on average during heatwave events on an area of 30 hectares located on the Ile du Ramier in Toulouse, by counteracting the UHI effect

Climate ResIlience Thru Involvement of LoCAL citizens

The key challenge of the LIFE CRITICAL project is the implementation of climate adaptation at affordable costs and with the support of all stakeholders, particularly citizens, in old neighborhoods where existing infrastructure does not always allow for easy solutions.  The innovative approach addresses the problems that these neighborhoods face with regard to adaptation by exploiting the potential of nearby parks for climate adaptation

Towards a more resilient Lisbon UrbaN Green InfraStructure as an adaptation to climate change

Under the changing climate, Lisbon faces increased risks of drought, seasonal flooding and extreme temperatures that have negative impacts on health and quality of life in the city. The LIFE LUNGS project aims to increase the resilience of Lisbon by implementing the municipal climate adaptation strategy through green infrastructure and promotion of related ecosystem services

Climate value of urban trees

The EU strategy on adaptation to climate change calls for cities to set city-level targets for emissions reduction, plan and implement urban investments, and develop management strategies on urban resilience to climate change. LIFE CLIVUT will develop an urban green asset strategy for Mediterranean medium-size cities and implement it in four pilot cities: two in Italy, one in Greece and one in Portugal

Cooperation of cities and local companies for climate change adaptation

The overall goal of the LIFE-CLIMCOOP project is to develop, test and demonstrate collective actions between a city government and a multinational company to reduce local climate risks and enhance joint climate change adaptation to the benefit of both parties. The pilot demonstration will particularly explore water-saving opportunities in the upstream parts of the River Saj in Hungary
