With climate change, the likelihood of extremely hot days, associated with excess mortality, is increasing rapidly. In parts of the Mediterranean and Middle East, temperatures above 45-50°C are more likely than in pre-industrial times, and could be experienced every year in the hotter locations by the end of the century. The region may face several additional weeks with risks for heat-related fatalities by 2100, which stresses the need for effective adaptation planning.

This online workshop deals with health concerns of urban greenness in perspective of climate change. During the workshop, which is part of the ENBEL project (Enhancing Belmont Research Action to support EU policy making on climate change and health), the latest research findings will be presented, alongside with mitigation strategies to address health challenges.

El seminario web organizado por el proyecto de agotamiento abordará varios aspectos prácticos de la planificación de la acción sanitaria en las ciudades, como la combinación de la protección del calor y la reducción de la contaminación atmosférica, la adaptación de los planes de acción a las condiciones locales, la participación de las partes interesadas y los sectores, y la integración de medidas para las ciudades con bajas emisiones resistentes al cambio climático en los planes de acción regionales o locales.

Il webinar organizzato dal progetto di esaurimento affronterà diversi aspetti pratici della pianificazione dell'azione sanitaria nelle città, tra cui la protezione del calore e la riduzione dell'inquinamento atmosferico, l'adattamento dei piani d'azione alle condizioni locali, il coinvolgimento dei portatori di interessi e dei settori, l'integrazione di misure per città a basse emissioni resilienti ai cambiamenti climatici nei piani d'azione regionali o locali.

The Climate-Health Cluster, including the BlueAdapt, CATALYSE, CLIMOS, HIGH Horizons, IDAlert and TRIGGER projects, organizes a joint session on “Health Impacts of Climate Change: a way forward with the Climate-Health Cluster" at the ENBEL 2023 conference.

Heat-related effects of climate change are more and more manifest – along with their human toll in terms of deaths and diseases.
