FORESEE Future proofing strategies FOr RESilient transport networks against Extreme Events

The aim of the FORESEE project is to increase the resilience of multimodal transport infrastructure and thereby reduce the impacts of natural and human disruptive hazards (e.g. earthquakes, floods, fires or landslides) on critical elements, such as bridges, tunnels and terminals.

Within the project, cost effective and reliable tools to improve the resilience of transport infrastructure will be developed. Through new innovative technologies, methodologies and resilient schemes, FORESEE addresses the effectiveness of measures aiming at improving the ability to anticipate, absorb, adapt to, and/or rapidly recover from a disruptive event, mainly in road and rail infrastructure and transport hubs. Specifically, FORESEE will develop a harmonised resilience assessment methodology and an integrated toolkit able to reduce the consequences with a systemic perspective. The achievement of project objectives is particularly based upon:

  • an update on best available methodologies, practices and solutions with data-enhanced models, solutions and cost benefit assessments
  • the development of new solutions regarding drainages, pavements and protection from landslides
  • a detailed strategy for successful implementation of above-mentioned measures, integrated into the infrastructure life-cycle usual procedures.

The project will provide road and rail infrastructure managers and users with Situational Awareness System based on the best available data acquisition system. Moreover, adaptation guidelines will be provided helping to prevent from damages of transport infrastructure and disruption of traffic.
