The second section explores in detail the interpretation of “rapid” or “abrupt” climate change, and introduces a classification. Section 3 introduces semi-quantitative characterisations of three abrupt climate changes used as the basis for an assessment of impacts and vulnerability, and Section 4 discusses the assessment of likelihoods for these characterisations. Section 5 summarises the estimated impacts of abrupt climate change in Europe, and Section 6 discusses implications for vulnerability to abrupt climate change.
