Adaptation Support Tool for Islands

Description

The Adaptation Support Tool for Islands was developed in the framework of the SOCLIMPACT H2020 project. The aim of this tool is to assist policy makers and coordinators on the regional and national levels in designing tailored climate change adaptation strategies and plans for their islands. The Adaptation Support Tool was developed as a practical guidance to understand Climate Change impacts on Islands (physical, market and non-market effects), as well as the macroeconomic implications of these changes on islands and Europe’s economic systems.

It works as a compass where the user can choose three coordinates following this order: 1. Archipelago/Island, 2. Sector and 3. Hazard. Key SOCLIMPACT findings are finally displayed for the selected archipelago, sector and hazard in terms of: climate description, current situation about adaptation, specific limits and obstacles to adaptation, and available knowledge about risks, vulnerability and adaptation pathways.

12 EU islands and archipelagos are involved:

  • European Small States Islands: Cyprus and Malta;
  • European islands: Baltic Islands, Balearic Islands, Siciliy, Sardinia, Corsica, Crete;
  • European Outermost Regions: Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and French West Indies.
