This report, prepared by the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU), a scientific advisory board to the German Federal Government, is a contribution to the Habitat III conference to be held in October 2016 in Quito, and discusses the relevant conditions for cities to contribute to the transformation towards sustainability. Regarding the adaptation to climate change, the authors provide some key recommendations: both mitigation and adaptation have to be taken into account within the decision-making process of large-scale infrastructural projects.
