Gaia Artic Summit

The Gaia Arctic Summit 2024 is an international climate conference scheduled for June 6th-7th in Vesterålen. The conference aims to address pressing climate change issues, with a particular focus on the sea and coastal communities in the North. Through collaborative efforts, the conference pursuits to foster resilient local communities, mitigate climate and environmental risks for businesses and communities, and promote transformation and innovation towards a sustainable future, in accordance with the UN Sustainability Goals. The urgency for the Gaia Arctic Summit 2024 arises from critical factors such as the alarming lack of awareness about climate risks and changes in Northern Norway.

The conference will explore four main themes:

• Status today and looking into the future: Which climate changes affecting the Artic can we expect?
• Overall political guidelines and framework: Addressing global and local issues.
• How can we create change: Financing, research and innovation.
• Connecting local with global needs: Building knowledge and collaboration networks

Keynote speakers from organisations such as the European Commission, World Bank, UNECE, and Nordic Circular Hotspot will contribute to the conference. Along with notable national stakeholders from Sintef, the Research Council of Norway, Innovation Norway and leading private companies will also participate.
