Boosting adaptation to climate change: National and EU level knowledge and tools for Slovakia

Promoting Climate-ADAPT in Slovakia

The European Climate Adaptation Platform (Climate-ADAPT) is a partnership between the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) and the European Environment Agency (EEA). Its main objectives are to share the knowledge base and practical experiences in the field of climate change adaptation, to assist an effective uptake of this knowledge by decision makers, and to contribute to a greater level of coordination among the relevant sectoral policies and different institutional levels. It is already a key established reference tool and knowledge resource in Europe. Under the new EU Adaptation Strategy, it will be further expanded with new knowledge components to support better informed decision-making for a more climate-resilient Europe.

Co-organised with the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, the webinar offers an overview of available adaptation knowledge, guidance, and tools at national and EU level platforms such as climate data, an urban adaptation support tool, and case studies. The webinar also provides a reflection on how the available information is being used and which knowledge gaps need to be addressed at EU and the country level.

The target audience of the webinar are current and potential new users and information providers of Climate-ADAPT in Slovakia, i.e., governmental decision-makers as well as the organisations supporting them in the development, implementation, and evaluation of climate change adaptation strategies, plans and actions at all governance levels in Slovakia. Beyond that, all other actors involved in adaptation to climate change in Slovakia are welcome to participate in the webinar (including businesses and non-governmental organisations, practitioners, and other interested citizens).

The webinar will be held in English and Slovak and a Slovakian interpretation service will be available.

Read here the story of the fictional character Beata, who works in the Ministry of Environment. She is in charge of developing adaptation policies for the water sector in Slovakia. As floods are a key challenge in Slovakia, she is looking for information on water management to develop flood protection and disaster management measures. Her story shows how she uses Climate-ADAPT in a basic way by following clear options, to find the information she is looking for.
