Climate Central’s Program on Sea Level Rise

Climate Central is an independent organization of leading scientists and journalists researching and reporting the facts about our changing climate and its impact on the public. Climate Central surveys and conducts scientific research on climate change and informs the public of key findings. Central Climate scientists publish and journalists report on climate science, energy, sea level rise.

Climate Central uses science, big data, and technology to generate thousands of local storylines and compelling visuals that make climate change personal and show what can be done about it. It addresses climate science, sea level rise, extreme weather, energy, and related topics. It collaborates widely with TV meteorologists, journalists, and other respected voices to reach audiences across diverse geographies and beliefs.

Climate Central’s Program on Sea Level Rise strives to provide accurate, clear and granular information about sea level rise and coastal flood hazards both locally and globally, today and tomorrow. The program dedicates its efforts to helping citizens, communities, businesses, organizations, and governments at every level to understand the consequences of different carbon pathways and to navigate the shifting waters of our warming world.

Mapping tools are available, presenting sea level and coastal flood risk information at the global scale, with link to relevant reports and papers such as: Coastal Risk Screening Tool, global maps for multiple scenarios and elevation datasets, enabling neighbourhood-level exploration of threatened areas around the world; Mapping Choices, an interactive global map that allows anyone to visually compare the potential long-term consequences of different emissions and warming scenarios; Seeing Choices, a global interactive map that reveals the effect of rising global temperatures on coastal cities.
