The Europen Biodiversity Clearing House Mechanism (EC-CHM) network web site is managed by the European Environment Agency, as part of the Biodiversity Information System for Europe - BISE. While BISE is the main portal serving as the EU Clearing House Mechanism, this web site is maintained as a discussion forum and a clearing house for biodiversity information from national CHMs, international conventions and initiatives from the whole of the European continent.

The objective of the European Biodiversity CHM network is to promote technical cooperation and technology transfer within the Pan European Region and the rest of the world.

The portal includes EU Biodiversity Indicators – "Streamlining European 2010 Biodiversity Indicators" (SEBI 2010) and its 26 indicators. SEBI2010 is a pan-European initiative, launched in January 2005 to develop appropriate indicators to assess achievement of the 2010 target at European level.
