European Drought Observatory (EDO)

The European Drought Observatory (EDO) contains drought-relevant information such as maps of indicators derived from different data sources (e.g., precipitation measurements, satellite measurements, modelled soil moisture content).
Different tools, like Graphs and Compare Layers, allow for displaying and analysing the information and drought reports give an overview of the situation in case of imminent droughts.

The EDO Drought Map Viewer provides map-based access to a wide range of drought-related data and information.

In 2022, in line with the adoption of the new EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change, the European Commission (DG Environment and DG Joint Research Centre) launched the European Drought Observatory for Resilience and Adaptation project (EDORA), aiming to improve drought resilience and adaptation by enhancing drought risk assessment at different scales, aggregating data on impacts in different sectors, fostering connections and establishing drought observatories in the Member States. All these actions will ultimately enhance the resilience and adaptation to drought across the EU, by offering a common core of operational data and knowledge about droughts.
