AURORA is a pioneering European initiative launched in autumn 2024 by a 26-member consortium spanning 11 EU countries. Led by EXUS AI LABS, the project brings together top experts in climate science, public health, and urban planning to develop AI-driven solutions that strengthen cities’ resilience to climate change and improve public health outcomes. As climate-induced hazards like heatwaves, floods, and disease outbreaks intensify—especially in the vulnerable EU Boreal region—AURORA provides early warnings, forecasts health risks, and recommends tailored, science-based strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
By integrating climate and health data, AURORA supports evidence-based policymaking through real-world demonstrations in five cities (Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, and Pori) and replication in three others (Klaipėda, Joniškis, and Jūrmala). Its mission is to safeguard urban populations against the cascading impacts of climate change through a multi-disciplinary, transnational approach that ensures scalable, actionable results across Europe.
