Description

IMPETUS accelerates Europe’s response to climate change by turning high-level commitments into practicAL, region-specific actions. The project develops and validates innovative adaptation measures that strengthen regional resilience, while also supporting regional socio-economic development, climate change mitigation, and the transition of communities towards ecological sustainability and resilience.

At the core of IMPETUS is a multi-scale, cross-sectoral adaptation framework that accelerates the transition towards a climate-neutral, resilient Europe. Central to this framework are the Resilience Knowledge Boosters (RKBs) - a powerful engine for stakeholder engagement and evidence-based policymaking. RKBs bring together a diverse  community, integrating human and digital dimensions  to co-design, test and monitor a wide range of adaptation solutions. These solutions include technological innovations, governance strategies, awareness campaigns, financial tools, and sustainable transition pathways – all tailored to meet local and regional needs.

Climate Adaptation in Action

- Solutions for Climate Resilience

IMPETUS develops a portfolio of  innovative, scalable solutions addressing key climate risks at a regional level. These range from nature-based solutions and smart water management to energy efficiency, climate risk monitoring, and sustainable finance. Each solution is grounded in research and validated through on-the-ground implementation. Explore the full range of solutions here.

- Demonstration Sites Across Europe

To ensure real-world applicability, IMPETUS deploys and validates its solutions in seven Demonstration Sites, each representing one of Europe’s biogeographical regions: Continental, Coastal, Mediterranean, Atlantic, Arctic, Boreal, and Mountainous. These sites act as living labs where stakeholders collaborate to test adaptation measures, assess their impact, and refine strategies to enhance climate resilience. Learn more about these testbeds for innovation here.

- The IMPETUS platform for Scalable Solutions

The IMPETUS Platform is a dynamic online hub where stakeholders — from policymakers to businesses and community groups — can discover, share, and adopt validated climate adaptation solutions. It offers practical tools, datasets, methods, and best practices to accelerate climate action across sectors and regions. Browse the available resources and opportunities here.

By bridging research, innovation, and community engagement, IMPETUS transforms climate adaptation into tangible action, supporting the long-term resilience of Europe’s diverse regions.
