Global knowledge exchange and capacity development for marine and coastal biodiversity (Blue Solutions)

Description:

Marine and coastal ecosystems are fundamental for human well-being and provide a range of valuable services; unfortunately, they are highly at risk. Under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Post 2020 Biodiversity Framework, the sustainable use of marine and coastal ecosystems is a priority for action.

The Blue Solutions Initiative is a global project that works on several topics relevant in the conservation and sustainable use of the resources that come with marine and coastal biodiversity. This work is conducted through capacity building and global knowledge exchange in collaboration with partner projects of the implementing organizations as well as other establishments all around the world.

Blue Solutions works in the marine and coastal realm on the topics:

  • Coastal & Marine Management
  • Protected Areas
  • Integrating Ecosystem Services
  • Climate Change
  • Sustainable Financing

The Blue Solutions Initiative promotes the active sharing of Blue Solutions, positive and inspiring examples of success that support knowledge transfer and enable mutual learning. A structured format with a detailed description of key components (building blocks), solution implementation, success factors, and lessons learned, allows people to adapt whole solutions or building blocks to different contexts.

Blue Solutions hosts the thematic portal on “marine and coastal solutions” PANORAMA platform that houses all case studies that have been collated through the project.
