Description

The project ICZM-Oder (Integrated Coastal Zone Management in the German Oder Estuary Region) was initiated as a consequence of the EC Recommendations on Integrated Coastal Zone Management. It was one of the two large national German projects on ICZM. Major element for public participation and the involvement of authorities was the Regional Agenda 21 'Oder Lagoon'. The creation of sustainable perspectives and structures, exceeding the duration of the project, was the core of all activities. Among sustainable tourism, ICZM indicators as well as innovative legislative and planning aspects, one scientific focus was the interaction between the Oder river basin, the adjacent coastal zone and the Baltic Sea. On the basis of model simulations and existing river catchment scenarios the impact of global chance and changes in land-use and practise on coastal water quality was analysed.
