Description

The PIISA project addresses the imperative for EU Member States to enhance their climate change adaptation efforts in tandem with mitigation measures. Recognizing the role of insurance and risk-sharing solutions, PIISA focuses on developing innovative insurance concepts to incentivize proactive and sufficient adaptation efforts by households, firms, and public authorities. The project aims to co-create climate-resilient insurance portfolios, sharing losses and climate risk data.

Key features of PIISA include scientifically grounded insurance concepts, hands-on demonstrations of operability, effectiveness, and acceptability, as well as extensive user involvement, contextual sensitization, affordability, and viability. The project's sectoral focus encompasses agriculture, the forest sector, and cities and citizens' well-being, addressing climate-enhanced hazards such as floods, droughts, forest fires, biotic risks, and storms. With 12 partners from 5 countries, including 3 insurance companies actively participating in insurance pilots across 8 countries, PIISA seeks to bridge adaptation and insurance gaps and contribute to building more resilient societies.
