Promoting and implementing joint programming to reinforce transnational research at the crossroad between biodiversity and climate change (BiodivClim)
Description:
Biodiversity, the unique variety of life on our planet, underpins our economy and well-being. However, climate change has been identified as one of the top five direct drivers of biodiversity loss. Stopping the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services is a top priority in the EU, which supports the BiodivClim initiative to gain a better understanding of the interactions between biodiversity and climate change so they can be incorporated into decision-support models and tools.
By networking 33 funding agencies from 22 countries from Europe and other continents, BiodivCim aims to promote coordinated international research on biodiversity and climate change in all environments, including agricultural areas. It will strengthen research & research programmes coordination with the ultimate aim to provide policy makers and other stakeholders with adequate knowledge, tools and practical solutions to improve the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystems under a changing climate.
