The LIFE SHARA project aims to strengthen climate change adaptation governance in Spain and Portugal. It is embedded in the Third Work Program (2014-2020) of the Spanish National Climate Change Adaptation Plan (PNACC) and contributes to the Portuguese National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change.
SHARA aims to communicate, raise awareness and capacitate on adaptation to climate change. For this reason, the project aims to give the AdapteCCa platform an important boost. This platform has been established in the course of the PNACC to support knowledge sharing, dissemination of information and networking between all individuals and organizations active in the field of climate change adaptation, at all levels. Furthermore, training courses and dissemination activities on climate change adaptation outcomes are organized. By implementing these actions, the relevance of the PNACC and the need for adaptation action will be widely disseminated throughout Spanish society. Special attention is paid to training the trainers and enhancing coordination and cooperation among stakeholders through the reinforcement of links between the private sector and local, regional and national administrations in Spain, as well as with neighboring Portugal.
Finally, the SHARA project will evaluate the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change in Spain resulting in the first evaluation of the impact of adaptation in Spain since the beginning of the PNACC in 2006.
