Description

LAND4CLIMATE aims to enhance the resilience of landscapes and urban settlements in the continental biogeographical area by promoting the implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS). The project acknowledges challenges in the widespread adoption of NBS, attributing it to the need for more land, a focus on public land, and the untapped potential of private land for climate resilience. LAND4CLIMATE addresses these gaps by developing innovative governance schemes and business models, such as land readjustment schemes, strategic land leases, and easements, to access private land for NBS implementation. The primary objective is to co-design and validate NBS on private land, focusing on transformative climate resilience in areas prone to multiple risks, including extreme hydro-meteorological events. The project operates in six frontrunner cases across Austria, Czechia, Germany, Italy, Romania, and Slovakia, identifying cause and effect relations of climate risks, developing governance and business models for legitimate NBS implementation, and facilitating replication and upscaling. Involving seven replicant regions, LAND4CLIMATE aims to inspire synergies between NBS beneficiaries and landowners on a wider scale and contribute to the EU's mission for climate change adaptation.
