Description

STAR-FLOOD was a FP7 project that focused on flood risk governance. The project investigated strategies for dealing with flood risks in 18 vulnerable urban regions in six European countries: Belgium, England, France, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden. The outcome of the project are flood risk governance arrangements that are suitable to increase the resilience towards flood risks in European regions.

This project has revealed the drivers and barriers that exist behind the various flood risk management strategies that are currently in practice in European countries. Furthermore, the roles and responsibilities between public and private actors, including citizens, was examined. The project also explored the resources that are needed to ensure the enhancement of societal resilience.
