Assessments and reviews of the water policy and the river basin management plans of the Member States have identified existing gaps to safeguared Europe's water resources. Therefore, in addition to ongoing policies, the Blueprint has been developed in 2012. This Blueprint acknowledge that aquatic environment differ greatly accross the EU and therefore, it is not possible to develop a one size fits all solution. The Blueprint involves themes as there are improving land use, addressing water pollution, increasing water efficiency, improving water resources governance.
