Climate justice handbook

The Climate Justice Handbook, created within the research project, “Accelerating Just Climate Transitions in Urban Regions (ACT)”, funded by the Dutch Climate Research Initiative, provides practical guidance for integrating fairness, inclusion and equity into climate policies and practices, with a strong focus on urban regions and local decision-making. From an adaptation perspective, it supports practitioners in designing measures that recognise different levels of vulnerability, ensure meaningful participation, and avoid reinforcing existing inequalities.

The handbook offers tools such as justice-oriented workshops, stakeholder mapping and scenario-based training to prepare for climate-related events. It highlights that effective adaptation should combine climate risk data with social vulnerability information, make communication accessible, and prioritise those with fewer physical, financial or institutional capacities to adapt.
