This publication is a joint recommendation of the World Health Organization, World Meteorological Organization, United Nations Environment Programme, and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection. As skin cancer rates have been on the rise, it seeks to inform on the health risks associated with ultraviolet (UV) radiation and how to reduce them. It introduces the reader to UV radiation, factors influencing the intensity of UV radiation at the earth's surface, its impacts on human health, the UV Index and implications for sun protection. Furthermore, it highlights the role of different public actors in raising awareness around the issue to reduce harmful effects from UV radiation.
